Sir Elton John, 74 , attended an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle today, where he was made a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour by the Prince of Wales. The singer-songwriter was previously knighted for his contribution to music and charity in 1998.

Sir Elton was pictured outside Windsor with his partner David Furnish as he displayed his award.

The Rocket Man singer could be seen in the photographs, using a walking stick as a support.

His appearance comes after Sir Elton was forced to postpone his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour until 2023 after suffering a fall, which required hip surgery.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live ahead of his operation, the musician explained: “I’m a recovering alcoholic so everything that happens I have to accept, and I can’t really change it.

“The only thing I can change is to do something positive.

“Get it done now, I hate disappointing people and I hate cancelling shows.”

Sir Elton also gave fans an insight into the pain the injury has caused him and why it was an issue when performing.

“I sing for two hours, 45 minutes and I’m in pain,” he explained.

“So I want to really enjoy what I’m doing.

“It’s my last tour and I want to give 100 percent for my fans, so it was a painful decision and quite a long time to reach but in the end of the day, it was getting so bad, and I fell over and that was the icing on the cake.”

Sir Elton announced that his tour would be postponed in a heartfelt message shared with his 3.7 million Instagram followers.

He penned: “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I am forced to reschedule the 2021 dates of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Europe and the UK to 2023.”

Explaining the reason, he went on: “At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since.

“Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving.

“I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications.”

He added: “I will be undertaking a program of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain.”

Sir Elton also admitted his husband David urged him to stop performing in order to make a full recovery ahead of his return in January.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “David told me I had to stop.

“And we’ll start again in January, and that was the right decision.

“It didn’t cause me a load of mental anguish, the only anguish I have is letting people down.”
