Halsey revealed that she has been to rehab twice in her five years of fame.
The 24-year-old singer told Rolling Stone that she now feels comfortable opening up about her experience publicly.
‘I’ve been committed twice since [I became] Halsey, and no one’s known about it. But I’m not ashamed of talking about it now. It’s been my choice,’ she said.
‘I’ve said to [my manager], “Hey, I’m not going to do anything bad right now, but I’m getting to the point where I’m scared that I might, so I need to go figure this out”,’ she added.
In the interview Halsey explained that she has now give up alcohol, drugs and weed.
‘I support my whole family,’ the American singer said.
‘I have multiple houses, I pay taxes, I run a business. I just can’t be out getting fucked up all the time.’
Despite what it may seem like, the singer believes fame has helped her stay sober.
‘It makes me accountable,’ she added.
Halsey has been open about her mental health issues, especially about her experience with bipolar. She was diagnosed with the disorder after attempting suicide when she was 17.
She told Rolling Stone that she’s never sure what state she will be in when she wakes up, revealing that she is currently in an extended manic period.
‘I know I’m just going to get fucking depressed and be boring again soon,’ she said.
‘And I hate that that’s a way of thinking. Every time I wake up and realise I’m back in a depressive episode, I’m bummed. I’m like, “Fuck. Fuck! This is where we’re going now? OK…”‘
Despite being open about her bipolar disorder, bisexuality, relationships, and suicide, the one part of her life she regrets sharing publicly is her miscarriage.
‘It was just really weird, to see how people were like, “Well, I’m going to police the validity of this experience that she had.” You know?’
