“Cats” may have debuted to box office numbers fit for a litter box, but one of the film’s stars, Jason Derulo, still has another animal that’s on the rise — his “anaconda.”
The giant snake reference went viral when Derulo posted an image of himself exiting a pool in his underwear that was deemed so eye-popping it was banned by Instagram. Derulo told Page Six that in the wake of the impressive image, he’s been receiving more naughty messages for the holidays than ever. Even at the same time’s he’s starring in a PG-rated musical.
“It’s just really been funny — the juxtaposition of doing a family movie, but everybody wants to know about this anaconda photo,” the “Talk Dirty” singer told us backstage at ABC’s “The View,” while he was prepping to perform with Darlene Love and promote “Cats.”
“The DMs [direct messages on social media] is always pretty full on, but the nature of them has just been boosted — the sexual activity has been boosted — the amount of photos, so that’s fun.”
He added that unlike other stars who gain attention on social media, then shy away from press questions, “I’m not that kind of person. It’s all good . . . It’s hilarious. It’s been a lot of fun over the last couple of weeks getting to talk about my situation.”
He also said he’s contemplating recording a holiday album in the future.
“I definitely think I will,” he said. “It’s been tough because it’s been such a huge demand to put out more music.”
He’s also been bitten by the acting bug. “I bonded really well” with the “Cats” cast, he said. “I knew James [Corden] beforehand. Taylor [Swift], I’ve done shows with Taylor . . . we’ve been friends for a long time. Idris [Elba], it was my first time meeting him.”
On the set he was, “picking Idris’ brain — him being the leading man that I look to because he’s a [black man] who’s just killing it . . . I’m 100 percent [going to do more film]. I’m reading all these scripts I’m inspired by since doing ‘Cats.’ ”
