Jason Manford has opened up about his home life during a new podcast appearance, while reflecting on his first marriage. The 40-year-old comedian separated from wife Catherine in 2013 after ten years of marriage.

Jason, who shares four children with his ex, said he was so busy concentrating on giving his kids a financially better childhood than he had, that he didn’t focus on his relationship enough.

He said he had worked away from home a lot in order to provide for his family.

The former couple are parents to teenage twin daughters, as well as a seven-year-old son and a nine-year-old daughter.

The TV star is now married to Lucy Dyke and they share two children.

Jason made his comments while chatting to Loose Women star Judi Love on their joint Feel Good Tool Kit podcast.

“My first marriage really disintegrated on my theory of, ‘I don’t want my children to have the childhood I had’.

“So I was out working all the time and I didn’t put the care and time into that relationship that it deserved and needed,” he said during their conversation.

“It’s only now I’m starting to realise, ‘Oh, I’m not giving the children the childhood I had’, which is good in one thing but bad in another.

“Because I got to spend so much time and we had laughs with my parents,” the father-of-six reflected.

Stand-up comedian Jason is back on the road again for his new UK and Ireland tour, Like Me.

The show runs from now until November 2022.

Some of the gigs, which take place in venues from Aberdeen to Brighton, have been rescheduled after the coronavirus pandemic caused indoor events to be shut down.

He is currently on the warm-up leg of the tour.

Earlier this week, Jason shared a picture from a gig in Telford on Instagram.

He could be seen on stage in front of a live audience.

“Smashing couple of shows in Telford tonight. Really helpful as I get closer to the main tour,” he wrote alongside his snap.

“Some really funny responses from audience too. Thanks folks,”(sic) he added in view of his 328,000 followers.

Many took to the comments of his post to share their thoughts following the comedy show.

“At the 9pm show. Bl**dy brilliant! Thanks for the laughs and don’t worry we won’t tell Janet,” one follower remarked.

“Bl**dy brilliant 9pm show Jason. Got no voice left now, from laughing so much. Just off to bed now, once I’ve placed all the scatter cushions carefully on the floor,” another added.

“We’ve just got home! First ‘gig’ since lockdown and you didn’t disappoint! Crying laughing. Give Janet our love,” presumably referencing a joke from the show.
