Jessica Simpson is opening up about getting sober.
In her upcoming memoir Open Book, the 39-year-old star recalled how October 31, 2017 made her want to get sober.
In an excerpt obtained by People, Jessica wrote about heading to a school assembly for daughter Maxwell Drew, now 7, with husband Eric Johnson at 7:30am, where she admitted, “I’d already had a drink.”
Jessica went on to explain that she “zoned out” later in the day while her team dressed her up as Willie Nelson. It was when she was asked if she wanted to get her kids ready that she realized she wasn’t able to.
“I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape,” Jessica writes. “I am ashamed to say that I don’t know who got them into their costumes that night.”
Jessica went on to write that she had taken an Ambient to fall asleep after the embarrassing realization. “I slept in, afraid to see them, afraid I had failed them,” she continues. “I hid until they left, then drank.”
Also in the book, Jessica revealed that she became dependent on alcohol and pills after she was sexually abused as a child.
Open Book will be released on February 4.
