Country singer Margo Price covered Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion‘s “WAP” on a recent episode of “The Daily Show” hosted by Trevor Noah.
“When Trevor Noah and The Daily Show ask you to Cardi B, you do it,” Price tweeted later after the show.
“Need a Henny drinker, need a weed smoker/Not a garter snake, I need a king cobra,” Price sings while strumming her guitar.
“WAP” from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week, with 93 million streams and 125,000 downloads.
The song, however, has been surrounded by controversy after several people voiced concerns about its questionable lyrics. Noah, in the show, asked his correspondent Dulcé Sloan whether men would be as upset if the song wasn’t hip-hop.
“We don’t live in a society that’s comfortable with women flaming their sexuality,” Sloan replied. “It doesn’t matter if it’s rap or country. I bet if it was a country music star that sang the same lyrics, all these men would still be upset.”
To further prove her point, Sloan called on country star Price to cover the song.
Meanwhile, Price released her latest album, That’s How Rumors Get Started, last month after it was delayed from its initial May release date due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Price also released a live album, Perfectly Imperfect at the Ryman.
