I still can’t quite believe I’m on the New Year’s Honours list
The 44-year-old has now broken his silence on the exciting news in view of his 290,000 Instagram followers.
The One Show star uploaded a video reacting to the announcement, which immediately caused a stir on the picture-sharing app.
He admitted he still “can’t quite believe” he has been included in the names.
Beaming from ear to ear, Matt filmed himself outside, seemingly on his family’s farm.
His pride was impossible to miss, as he thanked those that had helped him over the years.
Wearing a baseball cap and dark jacket, the father-of-two started by wishing everyone a happy new year.
“Erm, so I’ve woken up this morning as Matt Baker MBE,” he stated.
“I still can’t quite believe I’m on the New Year’s Honours list.”
Matt continued: “But it’s all to do with charity work, work I’ve done for Children In Need over the years.
“It goes without saying, none of that money would’ve been raised if it wasn’t for you lot.
“A huge thank you for giving me the opportunity to raise over £50 million – a massive thank you to all the youngsters that have been a huge part of this and of course the wider Children In Need family.
“It means a great deal to me, it really does.”
Matt went on to echo his thoughts in the caption to the upload, which was liked more than 30,000 times in an hour.
He said: “As many of you know Children in Need is a charity that’s very close to my heart and I’d like to thank those who nominated me.
“I’m so proud of the money that’s been raised over the years, in all the fundraisers I’ve been involved with.
“Thank you to everyone that’s helped. I wish you all the very best with whatever comes your way in 2022 #thankyou.”
His wife Nicola Baker, who he wed back in 2004, was one of the first to comment: “Really proud of you!”
TV star Russell T Davies told him: “Ah, congratulations! Xx.”
Actresses Joanna Lumley and Vanessa Redgrave have been made dames in the New Year Honours list.
Other celebrities being honoured include newsreader Moira Stuart, dancer Ashley Banjo, 007 actor Daniel Craig and soap stars June Brown and William Roache.
