The monochrome midi-dress and matching hat worn by Melania Trump as she met members of the royal family today has drawn striking comparisons to Princess Diana.
Melania has joined her husband Donald Trump for a three-day state visit to England which will include a trip to Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day.
After landing at Stansted Airport on Monday morning, Melania changed into a dazzling white Dolce and Gabbana button-down dress, finished with a contrasting black belt and a collar and accessorised with a matching hat worn at a tilted angle.
As Melania, 49, was photographed at Buckingham Palace, many took to social media to point out out the similarity to an ensemble once worn by the Princess of Wales.
"Melania Trump's outfit at Buckingham Palace right now is a lovely homage to Princess Diana. Even the type and tilt of the hat," said one.
" Melania Trump at the Palace. Did she deliberately try and look like Diana? Wearing a hat and suit Diana might have worn," critiqued another.
While a third added: "Very thoughtful of Melania to wear her Princess Diana outfit as she is welcomed by Charles and Camilla."
"Melania is sporting a Lady Diana look!!!" exclaimed another.
However, other fans thought Melania's look was similar to that of Eliza Doolittle, the character played by Audrey Hepburn in 1964 musical My Fair Lady.
Today President Trump and Melania will have lunch with the Duchess of Cornwall, Princes Charles and the Queen.
Mr Trump will also tour Westminster Abbey, lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior and enjoy tea with Charles and Camilla at Clarence House.
Later, a state banquet will take place at Buckingham Palace, bringing Mr Trump's first day in the UK to a close.
His visit will be by far the most expensive in British history – costing taxpayers an estimated £40million in security costs.
Protesters have been parading anti-Trump banners reading 'Resist Trump' and 'Resist Racism' and have the Trump baby blimp is also set to fly over the capital.
