Geordie Shore star Nathan Henry has revealed he lied to the show’s producers about his sexuality because he thought it would stop him getting on the reality series.

Speaking to OK! online, the 29 year old says he told the show’s producers he was bisexual during the casting process because he was worried he wouldn’t be accepted onto the show if he told them he was gay.

Nathan tell us: “There was a bit of a backlash when I went on the show and said I was bi.

“Obviously I was gay but I didn’t want to tell people that because I didn’t think I’d get picked and I thought it would affect my career. I thought it would stop me getting on the show.”

But Nathan says as he continued filming for the show he realised he needed to “be honest”.

He says: “As time went on I thought, ‘I can’t keep doing this, I can’t lie and I need to be honest. I’m not enjoying myself and I can’t be a*sed sitting here pretending to pull girls for the sake of the show, it’s not fair on myself.’

“I told the producers and they were like: ‘That’s fine.’ I said: ‘Am I not going to lose my job?’ and they were like: ‘No.’

“The reaction was amazing. I still get DMs to this day saying: ‘Thanks so much for coming out on the show, it’s meant to so much to us.’ It’s nice to know it helped people.”

Nathan will open up about joining the MTV reality show during his episode of Geordie Shore: Their Story, which airs tonight.

The programme will see Nathan discuss his most precious and poignant moments as he reflects on childhood memories, growing up and joining the cast of the reality show in 2015.

“I came out three times,” says Nathan. “I came out to my mum, my dad and then on telly. My mum I was 17, my dad I was 19 or 20 and at uni and then when I came out on Geordie Shore I was 22 or 23."

Nathan, who recently purchased his first home, says both his parents were incredibly supportive when he told them, but he took longer to tell his dad because he “didn’t want to be disowned”.

“I didn’t tell him because he’s Jamaican,” he explains.

"I knew my dad wasn’t going to stone me to death but I just didn’t want to be disowned. I didn’t want to have that over my head.

"But my dad was very supportive as well, we both got very teary and he gave me a hug.

"I think he was more disappointed that I felt I couldn’t go to him. Now every time I see him he’s always asking me if I’ve got a boyfriend.”

And Nathan says his dad now even tries to set him up on dates!

Nathan reveals: "He’s a bus driver and about two years ago he tried to set me up with his friend from work who is gay. He was 48! He was pushing 50. I was like: ‘Dad, I’m not into older men!’”

Geordie Shore: Their Story continues Tuesdays at 10pm on MTV.
