Piers Morgan has been applauded after telling a “trash” troll, who targeted Kate Garraway, to “go f**k” themselves.

The outspoken Good Morning Britain star, 55, defended friend and colleague Kate, 53, after a cruel online troll said they “didn’t believe” her husband Derek Draper’s health condition.

Kate’s husband Derek, who recently uttered his first word in 214 day health struggle, is currently in a coma in hospital after being put in intensive care with the coronavirus – which he has since beaten.

The GMB star appeared on the morning show to discuss Derek’s current health progress and reveal fresh heartache as her family car was recently stolen.

But, one cruel troll targeted Kate with a tweet which read: “Just watched her being allowed to drivel on for 10 mins about her volvo!!!! [sic]

“seriously you are scraping the barrel here. I just do not believe a word that woman is saying about her husband. I have followed the story and it is not adding up.”

Piers clearly had no time for the cruel comments as he lashed out at the troll.

He tweeted in response: “You disgusting piece of trash. If you had even an ounce of Kate’s decency, courage & dignity then I would bother to engage you further.

He ended his rant with: “But you don’t, so go f**k yourself.”

Piers’ furious defence of his dear friend Kate was met with praise by followers.

One person wrote: “Well said @piersmorgann Kate & her family have & still are going through an awful time: sending Kate & family lots of love.”

While a second, who said he was a friend of Derek’s, said: “What is wrong with people. Honestly, I despair. Poor Kate. I’ve been a friend of Derek’s for two decades, and wish the whole family well – like any decent person would. Well said, Piers x”.

And a third added: “Well said Piers! Who the hell do these people think they are?”

It comes after Piers raged at people who “whine about wearing a mask” and reminded them of Kate’s husband who remains in hospital after being admitted in April.

He wrote on Twitter over the weekend: “When I hear people whining about wearing a mask, or not being able to get lashed with 20 mates every night, I also think of my friend Kate Garraway’s extraordinary courage, resilience & dignity in the face of unbearable heartache. And I say to the whiners: shut up.”

Piers has been vocal of his support for Kate as she and her family through her husband Derek’s hospitalisation.

He said he was “rooting” for Derek as he remained in intensive care as Kate gave an update on her husband’s health in June.

Writing on Twitter, Piers said: “Come on @derekdraper – we’re all rooting for you. And we’re all here for you @kategarraway”.
