Piers Morgan, 55, has revealed how his wife Celia Walden, 45, had no “complaints” after she was made to stay socially distant from him. The former Good Morning Britain star was forced to cancel social engagements and sleep in the spare room of his home after he was informed by the NHS Test and Trace app he had come into contact with someone with coronavirus.

Piers recalled how last month he had been excitedly anticipating a number of social engagements, including lunch with Dame Joan Collins and dinner with Frank Lampard.

However, his plans were forced to be postponed after his track and trace app pinged.

He shared: “The app informed me that the ‘contact’ was made last Tuesday, so I would have to isolate for ten full days from then, meaning I’d be released at 11.59pm on Friday.

“I spent the next soul-sucking hour cancelling everything.

“‘How intensely annoying!’ sympathised Dame Joan.

“‘Oh no!’ replied Frank. ‘How crazy are these times?’”

Due to privacy rules, Piers was not allowed to be told where the contact with COVID-19 had occurred.

He also felt “no symptoms” and has been fully vaccinated against the virus.

Despite his annoyance at the unfortunate timing of his self-isolation period, one person who appeared happy with the scenario was his wife.

Piers continued in his Daily Mail column: “I must sit inside for five days maintaining social distance even from my wife Celia. Not that she’s complaining.

“‘Finally, a legal reason to keep you away from me!’ Celia chortled delightedly, preparing the spare bedroom.”

Celia started dating Piers back in 2006 following his split from his first wife Marion Shalloe.

They wed in 2010 in Swinbrook, Oxfordshire, around the time Piers was a judge on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

Celia has previously spoken out about how she believes she is in charge of their marriage.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain in May 2018 she responded to the question of whether she wore the trousers, saying: “Uhh yes, I think so!

“I think women are always quietly in charge, I just think it’s best to let the men think that they are.”

Piers previously explained how he and Celia “rarely argue” at home, which confuses his friends, including his former Good Morning Britain colleague Susanna Reid, who often wants to “lock horns with” him.

The TV presenter has, however, shared one former point of contention between the couple, as he admitted that Celia told him not to wake her with his 4.45am alarm on the days he had to get up early for work on GMB.

Piers shared: “Celia and I rarely argue, a marital oddity that baffles our friends, not least my TV wife Susanna Reid, who finds it impossible NOT to lock horns with me constantly like an enraged stag.”

The star stepped down from GMB back in March after an on-air disagreement with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle, and these days is focusing on his Life Stories series.
