Pals threw a surprise 60th birthday party for Jonathan Marder — who’s known as Manhattan’s nicest publicist.
The anomalously delightful PR pro was fêted at a bash hosted at Susan Gutfreund’s Fifth Avenue duplex Thursday, we’re told. Along with Gutfreund, the soirée was hosted by Joanna Fisher and Greg Grimes.
Marder — who has served as VP of The New Yorker, Random House Inc. and BBC Worldwide Americas — was blindfolded and led inside, and was “astounded to behold the room filled with longtime friends, colleagues and family all holding Jonathan face masks in front of their own.”
“Sophia Loren, when she was posing for a portrait on her 60th birthday, told photographer Greg Gorman, ‘not 60, 20 for the third time,’ ” Marder quipped.
Guests included Edgar Batista, Jeffries Blackerby, Sharon Bush, Michèle Gerber Klein, Sylvia Hemingway, Judith Hoffman, Elizabeth Jacoby, longtime Postie Richard Johnson, Alice Kandell, Joan Kron, Evelyn Lorentzen Bell, Iris Love and Daphne Merkin.
