Real Housewives’ Tanya Bardsley suffers heart palpitations after ADHD medication

The Real Housewives of Cheshire star Tanya Bardsley has revealed that she suffered a seizure and heart palpitations after taking medication for her ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder).

The former reality star, 40, took to Instagram to share the video of herself looking tired and shaken up as she explained the debilitating side effects that taking the medication had left her with, saying she felt as if she was “trapped in concrete”.

She warned fans about the difficulties of living with the condition and explained how she had tried three different medications but was struggling to find one that worked.

She explained that as a result she was no longer taking any medication and that was fully feeling her ADHD in the last few weeks, meaning that her focus and mood had been struggling.

She also revealed that she’d followed advice from another ADHD sufferer on the internet and advised fans to be careful when self-diagnosing and self-prescribing online.

She said: "I read on a forum the other night that a lady just takes a ADHD tablet on the day she has to be focused to get work done so I thought 'Ooh this could be perfect for me.

"I took 1 40mg atomoxetine tablet last night (the tablets I originally started on that didn’t give me heart palpitations ) I felt sick all night and been bed bound all bloody day I slept nearly all day and feel like I’m trapped in concrete.

"I’m going to throw myself in a cold shower to try wake up for the kids now but just wanted to warn you don’t be an idiot like me and take advice from the internet, also guess how much work I got done today, zilch."

The Wigan-born star has been a vocal advocate about mental health and spoken openly about her struggles, explaining how she was treated for anxiety and depression for many years before finally being given a diagnosis of ADHD shortly before her 30th birthday.

She spoke openly about her diagnosis on This Morning saying that she had been in a “lot of dark places” pre-diagnosis, experiencing a sinking feeling and sense of inner restlessness.

“All my life I've been treated for anxiety and depression, six weeks before my 30th birthday I was diagnosed with ADHD. It comes out differently in women. You think of a little boy running around, but a lot of women have it.”
