Love: The Scottish novelist and playwright, 63, announced that he has tied the knot for the third time as he posted a sweet photograph from the big day on his Instagram page on Wednesday afternoon

The Retribution star Emma opted for a boho bridal look in a plunging satin ivory dress with puff sleeves, teamed with a floral headpiece and a long beaded necklace.

She wore her blonde locks in a loose wavy style and opted for minimal make-up in the images which she shared to her own social media, alongside the caption: ‘Today I married the love of my life.’

In one image Irvine, who wore a pale blue shirt and a grey suit for the occasion, wrapped his arms around his bridge and kissed her on the lips in an adorable display of affection.

Elsewhere, the newlyweds walked down the street hand in hand while Irvine pulled a suitcase along beside him.

Irvine revealed he had become engaged to Emma in April 2022.

Twice-divorced Irvine announced the news — with a picture of his Scottish fiancée showing off the emerald sparkler with which he proposed.

‘My god. She said yes. P***ing wet day in Scotland but she said yes. So f**k everything else. Never been so happy in my life,’ the overjoyed star wrote.

Edinburgh-born Irvine said in September 2020 that the couple enjoyed an ‘old-fashioned courtship’ after meeting up for socially-distanced coffees during lockdown.

Irvine split from American wife Beth Quinn in 2017 after almost 15 years together. His marriage to first wife Anne Antsy ended in divorce in 2003.

Their engagement announcement came as he made a characteristically blunt attack on the Scottish Tories after they channelled his cult novel in a local election poster.

He invited the party to ‘get f***ed’ after it unveiled an attack on the SNP government based on the famous ‘choose life’ monologue that also featured in the 1995 film.

In the post last night the Scottish Tories tore into Nicola Sturgeon’s party, attacking its record and perceived hypocrisy in office, including ‘decriminalising heroin’ – the drug whose use is a running theme through Trainspotting.

Last September Scotland effectively decriminalised drugs in a major shake-up of policing that sees officers advised to issue only a ‘recorded police warning’ to anyone they catch in possession of Class As.

It is not the first time Welsh, who was born in Edinburgh but lives in the United States, has attacked the Tories.

Last year the Scottish independence supporter branded Boris Johnson a ‘gormless toff’.

Welsh slammed Johnson after the PM openly criticised plans for a European Super League, branding it ‘damaging for football.’

Responding on Twitter, he wrote: ‘A man of conviction. A man of principle. A man who has the deepest interests of the game and its supporters at heart.

‘Na. A gormless toff whose advisors have told him it’s unpopular.’
