Love Island’s Ollie Williams felt like the ‘most hated person in Britain’ after the hunting controversy.
The 23-year-old lasted just three days in the villa before leaving to pursue things with his ex-girlfriend.
Ollie, who is heir to a £15million estate in Cornwall, faced backlash after photos emerged of him posing with animals he’d killed.
‘I felt like the most hated person in Britain… I never in a million years thought it would be this bad,’ he told BBC.
‘I had someone checking I was OK mentally when I came out, but on landing in London they assigned me a security detail – I knew then things were bad.’
He also described going into hiding after returning to the UK.
‘I’m from a farming family in Cornwall, yes it was a privileged background, but I didn’t deserve to be trolled and neither did my family,’ he said.
He claimed his sister was hit by death threats on social media, adding that it ‘affected the whole family’.
Ollie apologised for the dead animal photos after leaving the villa and insisted he was not a ‘trophy hunter’.
‘I can see why people reacted to those pictures in the way they did – the photos are offensive, all people can see is a dead animal and me smiling and I apologise for the offensive nature of them,’ Ollie began.
‘I knew the negativity was about these pictures because taken out of context they look bad. I’m not a trophy hunter and I don’t take gratification out of killing animals.’
