I'm a female Nasa engineer – I'm proof you can have both brains and beauty | The Sun

A FORMER Miss USA contestant is defying all expectations of former beauty queens by making her mark as an engineer with Nasa.

But she is making no concession to her good looks — in fact, she is reveling in them, relishing the opportunity to show how beauty and brains really can go together.

TikToker Kristen (@krissnic_) is hoping to inspire other young women to walk in her footsteps.

She is recording her amazing journey on the platform and so far has attracted over 65k followers, all of whom tune in to watch this beauty at work in the field of space travel.

Kristen is unapologetic about enjoying beauty and fashion. She is living proof that beauty and brains can make a perfect combination and not hold anyone back in their chosen career.

Gone are the days when women were considered "decorative" or "tokenistic" in traditional STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) industries.

Kristen is having fun achieving her professional goals without having to compromise her good looks.

In one of her videos, she is filmed dressed all in white urging viewers: “Follow your dreams.”

The loud hip-hop music playing in the background gives the soft focus video a bit more grit and edge, an insight into the determination this young woman must have to go boldly where few other women have gone before.

The video continues a whistle-stop tour of her workplace.

She says: “Every day is different. On really fun days I might be at the launch site getting ready to launch a mission, which is honestly my favorite part.”

She captions one of her videos: “4 astronauts are on their way to the ISS and now I….sleep.”

She has words of encouragement for others wanting to become engineers.

“To the women pursuing STEM, stick to it!” she wrote before signing off with a series of hashtags: #empoweringwomen #bossbaby #womenengineer #womeninstem.
