They can sing, they can act, they can model and these women also know a thing or two about dressing well. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at their dazzling wedding dresses.
There’s nothing quite like the fashion dreams that wedding dresses are made of.
And while there are a slew of affordable and high street wedding gowns that are decidedly en vogue, inevitably, it’s the task of celebrities to endorse a bevy of designer dresses. Actor Priyanka Chopra married pop star Nick Jonas at the end of 2018 in a custom-made Ralph Lauren dress complete with 75-foot (yep, 75 foot) veil, while Ariana Grande opted for a dazzling Vera Wang gown, which was inspired by Audrey Hepburn in 1957 film Funny Face.
This year, as we emerge from the Covid cocoon we’ve been ensconced in, brides in the public eye are proving that they’re never far from a sartorial wedding win.
Scroll down to see the celebrities that had wedding dresses so dreamy, we can’t stop looking at them.
For her 60s-inspired low-key wedding at London’s Union Club, Lena Dunham sported a trio of custom Christopher Kane dresses, which she paired with a pair of delightfully demure Miu Miu micro heels. Her make-up references were a combination of Claudia Schiffer circa 1999, Sharon Tate and Pattie Boyd, with Dunham certain that she wanted to wear a bow at the crown of her head.
To marry her longtime beau, Louis Diame, American actor and writer Issa Rae wore a breathtaking custom Vera Wang ensemble. The star tied the knot in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, in the south of France, with her hair kept long and lustrous in a low ponytail.
To marry her longtime partner Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani sported a duo of custom Vera Wang dresses, the first of which was a floor-length tulle gown featuring a traditional veil, while the second ensemble was merely a shortened version of the first, which the former member of No Doubt paired with heeled boots and fishnet tights.
This wasn’t the first time that Stefani and Wang had joined forces; the designer first crafted a white gown for Stefani in 2019, when she accepted the Fashion Icon Award at the People’s Choice Awards.
Former Chanel model Lorraine Pascale received the mini wedding dress memo at her low-key wedding to long-term partner Dennis O’Brien at Chelsea Town Hall, with the Londoner opting for a vertiginous and show-stopping Vivienne Westwood number to say ‘I do’.
Pascale’s daughter, actor Ella Balinska, who gave her mother away on her big day, is an ambassador for the Panthère de Cartier collection, and so organised a dazzling tennis necklace for Pascale to wear with her wedding dress. On her feet, Pascale opted for a pair of glittering silver heels which she bought online in a rush to find the right pair of shoes for the occasion.
Never one to do things by halves, Grande wore a Vera Wang wedding gown for her nuptials to partner Dalton Gomez, which was inspired by Audrey Hepburn in 1957 film Funny Face.
The star, who was styled by stylist to the stars Mimi Cuttrell for the occasion, wore her hair in her signature high ponytail, complete with a statement veil headband.
According to Vogue, it was decided that bridal favourite Wang would make Grande’s wedding dress in 2018, when the singer attended the Heavenly Bodies-themed Met Gala wearing a Vera Wang gown.
New York Times bestselling author and former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, Elaine Welteroth, married her husband, musician Jonathan Singletary, on the couple’s doorstep in Brooklyn, having informed guests of their ‘virtual quarantine wedding’. In keeping with their micro Covid-compliant wedding, Welteroth wore a labelless white slip dress with a pair of custom Brother Vellies shoes, which the brand’s founder, her friend Aurora James, insisted on crafting for her.
The result was a pared-back, but no less faultless, display of matrimonial love and a serious example of how less can so often be more on your wedding day.
The Lizzie McGuire star and her longterm partner Matthew Koma celebrated their wedding in 2019. The actor staged an intimate ceremony for family and friends in the couple’s backyard in Los Angeles, with a reception to follow.
Duff wore a fitted Jenny Packham gown with billowing, caped sleeves and a train. She accessorised the dress with a bunch of dusty pink roses, a studded headband and a pair of gold drop earrings.
Based on images, it appeared that Duff wore the Farrah style from Jenny Packham’s bridal collection. The dress, which featured a detachable cape and silver embellishments, was part of Packham’s classic bridal range. If you ask us, it looked exactly like what dreams are made of, to borrow some Lizzie McGuire parlance.
A year after their surprise wedding in September 2018, Hailey and Justin Bieber made it official in 2019 with a lavish ceremony for friends and family in South Carolina. The wedding, which was The Notebook-themed according to TMZ, featured a screening of the Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling tearjerker and a rousing game of capture the flag, and saw Hailey don two different dresses.
The first was a bespoke Vivienne Westwood couture mini cocktail dress, for which Hailey travelled to London for fittings, paired with some Jimmy Choo heels. The second dress was a white halter-neck Off-White gown, which was custom designed for the model by Virgil Abloh, which Hailey wore with a simple up-do and a pair of diamond studs.
There was much speculation in 2019 over fashion designer Misha Nonoo’s private Italian wedding to Michael Hess. The sunset ceremony was attended by good friend Meghan Markle, who the bride recently collaborated with on a charity fashion line, and fellow royals, Princess Beatrice with her sister Eugenie.
Explaining the custom Vera Wang design, Nonoo wrote on Instagram: “Last weekend I married the love of my life in a dress I designed especially for the occasion. It was such a special process to make this one of a kind piece, particularly when I usually design with every woman in mind, the options felt endless. In the end, we selected a hand embroidered guipure lace on laser cut silk organza embroidered by a Swiss family-run mill established in 1904. We finished the piece with a 10 meter long silk tulle veil. I wanted to share these images with you and thank you all for your incredibly warm wishes as we embark on married life together”.
British chart-topping singer Ellie Goulding married her beau, Caspar Jopling, in 2019 in a quintessentially British ceremony at York Minster Cathedral. Surrounded by family and famous friends – Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Sienna Miller, Princess Beatrice and artist Tracy Emin were all in attendance – Goulding graced the day in stunning bespoke Chloé dress by designer Natacha Ramsay-Levi.
The silk double crêpe white dress was hand embroidered with White Roses of York and subtly embellished with white glass beads and also featured a beautiful ruffle collar. The dress took more than 640 hours to construct and highlights the meticulous skill and savoir-faire of the Chloé Paris atelier. To offset the decadent details of the dress, Gouding kept hair and make-up simple with a chic, slightly un-done bun and a soft smoky eye.
But the Chloé gown was far from Goulding’s only outfit choice of her big day. The star wore a Stella McCartney off-the-shoulder gown for pictures outside of the cathedral, before changing into a heavily beaded cape from Ralph & Russo over a white skirt, which she teamed with a sparkling headband for her evening reception. That wasn’t all: her final look of the occasion was a mini Balmain number which she paired with simple white heels.
Supermodel and entrepreneur Heidi Klum married her husband Tom Kaulitz for a second time last week. The pair previously married in secret in 2019, but they had no worries about making the most out of the second ceremony.
Klum shared a photo of the big day on-board a yacht in Capri, showing off her billowing and beautiful white gown, which was designed by Valentino’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. The off-the-shoulder puff sleeves, lace detail and trailing veil scream romance, along with her flowing, golden hair. It truly was a dramatic dress of dreams.
The dress that broke the internet in May 2018 was Meghan Markle’s bespoke Givenchy gown at her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018. Set at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, the now Duchess of Sussex looked every inch the Princess in a Bardot, long-sleeved sleek number before changing into a halterneck Stella McCartney gown which spawned a thousand spin-offs to head to her reception.
Supermodel Karlie Kloss got married to Joshua Kushner back in October 2018, but they had their second ceremony in 2019.
Set in a farmhouse in Wyoming, the initial Western-themed ceremony saw Karlie in an off-the-shoulder lace maxi dress by Maria Grazia Chiuri for Dior, which took 700 hours to make. Taking to her YouTube channel, Kloss said: “When I was a little girl, obviously I always liked the idea of having a fairytale wedding, but I never imagined I would have the chance,” before flying to Paris to meet with Grazia Chiuri for fittings.
Actor Priyanka Chopra went for a custom-made Ralph Lauren dress for her wedding to singer Nick Jonas. The high neck, covered button top-to-toe detail dress complete with 75-foot veil was a complete wow moment back in December 2018. The Bollywood star later changed into a red outfit by Sabyasachi Mukherjee for her traditional Indian ceremony and then into a cream embellished two-piece, again by Ralph Lauren, for her evening reception.
For her New Orleans wedding to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Grand Slam champion Serena Williams stole the show in a trio of dazzling dresses.
The first, for her church ceremony, was a dramatic tulle gown by Alexander McQueen; the second was a beaded Versace dress for the reception; and the final look of the night was a Versace mini for her first dance as a married woman.
During her 2016 wedding to NFL player Russell Wilson at Cheshire’s Peckforton Castle, Ciara dazzled in a Roberto Cavalli dress, which was designed especially for the star by the label’s creative director, Peter Dundas.
The dress, which featured a corseted bodice and lace bell sleeves, even featured Ciara and her new husband’s initials embellished on the lace of the train.
Artist Kim Sears married tennis player Andy Murray back in 2015 in a traditional Scottish ceremony. Kim went for a vintage style Jenny Packham dress with embellished detailing while her chic hair accessories completed the elegant look.
