One silver lining of the global pandemic is the way it has spurred a creative rebirth for many designers, forcing them to find new ways to create in an unprecedented time. For Reem Acra, it led her to look to her own body of work, using fabrics and embellishments from the studio archives of her many collections.

Whereas previously things may have been sent out to be made, because of the pandemic the collection was created in New York. It was a love letter to the Lebanese designer’s adopted hometown, an idea underscored by her choice to shoot the joyful collection inside the Chrysler Building, a shrine to both Art Deco and the city.

The Look: Grand embellishments creating textures on luxurious statement-making event dresses.

Quote of Note: “We had a journey with this collection. I had to think how you can make things happen, when everything is blocked. We are starting to feel what the customer wants, there is a shift, she really wants to look glamorous again,” Acra said, adding that this week she had a Middle East-based customer fly in to buy, a first since the pandemic and a hopeful sign of the direction things are going.

Key Looks: Luxe jacquard caftans, jewel tone tulles on strapless princess gowns with sheer accents, crushed velvet gowns.

Takeaway: Acra has always been about couture details on truly feminine dressing, as seen with her taking fabrics and treatments from her archive to once again create pieces for all types of high-octane events.
