FROM Rimmel to Sleek, we can't deny that there are some real beauty bargains to be had in Poundland.
But have you ever stopped to consider how old the products are? Well after watching this viral TikTok video, you won't be able to stop yourself from checking.
Savvy shopper Holly Smith – who founded the Extreme Couponing & Bargains Facebook page – revealed how you can easily find out when the products were made with a little-known website.
Walking her 474,000 followers through the process, Holly said: "This is how you check how old Poundland makeup is."
To begin with, the mum-of-two opened the CheckCosmetics.net on her phone and selected the brand of makeup from the drop-down menu.
Using a Rimmel foundation as an example, she continued: "Locate the product code on your makeup – this one is 6319.
"Select the brand which is Rimmel and enter the code. And as you can see, this foundation was made on the 14th November 2016."
While foundation usually expires between 12 and 18 months, unopened products which are stored in a cool, dry place can last longer.
Holly's video has racked up over 113,000 "likes" on TikTok and stunned followers.
One replied: "I think we all needed to see this!"
How long does makeup last?
Your everyday makeup products will start to expire once they've been opened and slowly begin oxidising .
If unopened products are stored in a cool, dry place, this will make them last longer.
Joanne Dodds from Hairtrade.com said: “I’m sure most of us will admit to not checking regularly and having much loved items lurking in your makeup bag for years.
“Whilst it doesn’t harm you to use some out-of-date makeup products, some provide moisture which bacteria thrives on, and mascara and eyeliner can cause eye irritations or infections.”
Most mascara tubes are labelled to have a shelf life of between four and six months.
Liquid eyeliner keeps for up to six months, as it's susceptible to bacteria.
Liquid and cream foundations only last between six to 12 months as they are made up of oils, water and other hydrating agents that increase bacteria – but your powder foundation will last up to two years.
"This is amazing," another added: "I can't believe I never thought of this – thanks so much!"
A third joked: "I still use a blusher I bought in 2015… okay my secret's out."
Meanwhile, others pointed out that if products are stored in a cool, dry place then they'll only start to expire when they've been opened.
"I work in a beauty department and makeup won't expire if it's not open," another claimed. "
