The red carpet dresses that took our breath away in 2019

The year may be coming to a close, but before we start planning our Oscar viewing parties, we’re revisiting all the gorgeous and glamorous high-fashion gowns that made their way down the awards show red carpets this year.

We saw fringe, we saw intricate embroidery, we saw sequins and we saw a whole lot of skin. From the Met Gala to Cannes, the Grammys to the Academy Awards, everyone from our favorite models, singers and actors put their best sartorial foot forward and set the stage for a very stylish season.

Regina King wore a pink sequined Alberta Ferretti gown for what may be her best red carpet moment ever at the Golden Globes.

Emilia Clarke shone like the queen she is in a navy Valentino get-up at the Emmy Awards.

Kaley Cuoco’s navy and white Monique Lhuillier dress at the Globes featured a statement bow and pockets.

Gemma Chan was a total goddess at 24th annual Critics’ Choice Awards in an off-shoulder floral gown by Jason Wu.

Dakota Johnson bared all at the 2019 Governors Awards in a stunning white two-piece by Brandon Maxwell.

Kendall Jenner showed off her supermodel moves in a Rami Kadi sequin gown at the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party.

Laverne Cox looked to Monsoori for the 2019 Emmy Awards and it ended up being one of her best red carpet looks ever.

Rocker chic! Lady Gaga opted for a strapless metallic dress by Celine at the 2019 Grammy Awards, which she paired perfectly with her tousled platinum waves.

Kristen Bell made a statement at the 2019 Emmys, opting for a colorful cut-out Dior creation.

Molly Sims, who wore Zuhair Murad Couture to the 2019 Academy Awards, was among a slew of stars to opt for head-to-toe sequins.

Miley Cyrus looked every bit the rock princess she is at the Oscars, wearing a black Saint Laurent dress with a plunging neckline.

Jennifer Lopez was a total goddess in Reem Acra for the 11th Annual Governors Awards, which she accessorized in Harry Winston jewels and a braided updo.

Susan Kelechi Watson shined in a tiered Christian Siriano gown for the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Kendall Jenner attended the amfAR Cannes Gala 2019 at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Giambattista Valli. Only Jenner could pull that look off!

Priyanka Chopra opted for a white Georges Hobeika ball gown at the Cannes Film Festival, which she paired with an intricate diamond choker.

Eva Longoria showed off major skin in a rose gold Alberta Ferretti creation on the Cannes red carpet.

Lucy Liu wore a striking purple Christian Siriano gown to attend the Tony Awards, where she was a presenter.

Model Ashley Graham showed off her famous curves at the Academy Awards in a figure-hugging black Zac Posen dress.

Laura Dern dazzled in a sequined one-shoulder Saint Laurent dress at the 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

Mandy Moore channeled Old Hollywood glamour for the 71st Emmy Awards in Brandon Maxwell.

Emily Blunt’s Michael Kors Collection dress for the 2019 Met Gala included 510,000 sequins and over 1300 crystals.

J.Lo made our list again at the Vanity Fair Oscar After-Party in a glittery strapless Zuhair Murad gown.

Serena Williams landed on our best-dressed list at the 2019 Met Gala for her Atelier Versace gown covered in pink butterflies — little did we know that she paired the red carpet dress with a pair of Off-White Nike sneakers like the icon she is.

Kim Kardashian West showed off her tiny waist in a Mugler dress that took eight months to make. The look, however iconic, was not without its challenges and left indentations on her back and stomach.

"I have never felt pain like that in my life," she said about the look.

Lupita Nyong’o heated up the Golden Globes red carpet in a cobalt blue gown by Calvin Klein.
