Gardening expert Carol Klein returned tonight for the third instalment of her five-part series on Channel 5 – Autumn Gardening with Carol Klein. Carol, who films the programme from her Glebe Cottage garden in Devon, shared more tasks Britons can be getting on with in their gardens this autumn. Carol also revealed how to plant spring-flowering bulbs such as daffodils, irises, tulips and camassias.

The plant pro unveiled how, where and why to plant some of the bulbs.

Carol also shared her “simple” method for planting garlic which she said she “loves” doing.

She said: “I love growing garlic, it’s so straightforward and simple.

“All you do is put these cloves in and basically let them get on with it.

“I’ve got around 10 or a dozen separate cloves out of that one bulb.

“I’m just making these little ridges [in the soil].

“Then each clove is going to go in and when I plant it, I’m going to push it right into the top of this ridge so it’s completely buried.

“You will just see a tiny little tail sticking out of the top.

“I’m going to plant them with about four inches between them and about nine inches apart in the row.

“It’s not crucial, as long as they’ve got room to put out the roots and send up those shoots.

“I think autumn is a brilliant time for planting all sorts of things.

“Whether you’re dividing your perennials or planting out your garlic.
