And the bride wore shorts.
For former “Bachelorette” Rachel Lindsay’s wedding to Bryan Abasolo in Cancun, Mexico, last weekend, the lawyer-turned-TV personality walked down the aisle in a two-piece gown from Randi Rahm, later slipping into something more comfortable for dinner and dancing.
“She always had this vision of herself in this strong pantsuit walking down the aisle,” Rahm told Page Six Style on Thursday. “When she first tried things on, and she put on a more traditional dress, I said, ‘You know, you can always wear pants on a red carpet to make this look.’”
The New York-based designer recalled telling Lindsay, 34, that she would make her a surprise: “Take the skirt off and you’ll have shorts underneath, so you have your pants.”
Lindsay’s wedding-day look consisted of a hand-embroidered cap-sleeved top with a low back and tulle skirt, while the shorts had a “short-skort look” that added a “dressy” touch. The look originally brought the then-bride-to-be to tears.
“I think everyone was expecting her to wear a little bit more hard-edge kind of feeling or look, but she started to cry and that was it,” Rahm said.
Lindsay previously opened up about her wedding look to Page Six Style in April, revealing she didn’t want a “sexy” dress for the big day.
“I love to wear a sexy dress, and when I was on ‘The Bachelorette,’ the dresses that I wore that were Randi Rahms were sexy. And I knew on my wedding day, though, I did not want to go for sexy,” Lindsay said at the time.
“I’m a curvy girl. I didn’t want something that hugged my figure or to take away from me being a bride, where you’re focusing on the wrong thing.”
