Bombshell moments in Harry and Meghan’s documentary from royal family response to shock footage

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan has been released today, and the couple have dropped many royal family bombshells.

Here are some of the biggest moments from the first three episodes…

Paparazzi issues

Harry, 38, said that he never felt totally at ease around them, starting from childhood.

"They made me feel really uncomfortable form the get-go and then the deal was they’d then put our skis on and they’d leave us alone," said Harry.

"Yeah some of them would but the other ones would then just follow us around waiting for an accident so it was never fair, it never worked."

He added: "My mum did such a good job trying to protect us. She took it upon herself to protect us."

The documentary then showed footage of Princess Diana speaking to the paps telling them: "We have had 15 photographers following us, as a parent I want to protect my children."

Panorama usage

The couple have taken the decision to use footage from the controversial Princess Diana Panorama interview.

Martin Bashir used false bank statements shown to her brother, Charles, Earl Spencer, and untruths about the royal family to grain her trust leading Prince William to say, “It is my view that the deceitful way the interview was obtained substantially influenced what my mother said.

"The interview was a major contribution to making my parents’ relationship worse and has since hurt countless others. It is my firm view that this Panorama programme holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again."

Safety concerns

"My job is to keep my family safe," said Harry, who has children Archie and Lilibet.

"By the nature of being born into this position and everything else that comes with it, and the level of hate that has been stirred up in the last three years especially against my wife and my son I’m genuinely concerned for the safety of my family."

Meghan added: "I just really want to get to the other side of all of this. I don’t know what to say anymore," before becoming tearful.

Harry continued, "This is about duty and service and I feel as though being part of this family it is my duty to uncover this exploitation and bribery that happens within our media."

Meghan concluded, "They are destroying us."

Meghan's mother Doria Ragland, who spoke for the first time in the documentary also felt unsafe.

“I felt unsafe a lot. I can’t just go walk with the dogs. I can’t just go to work. You, know there was always someone there waiting for me, following me to work. I was being stalked by the paparazzi.

"Once I pulled over and so he pulled up next to me and said, ‘You know, I’ve just being trying to get a story. You could get a lot of money for this’. And I just looked at him and said, ‘This is my child. I’ve nothing to say."

Learning the ropes

Meghan says she learnt quickly that she couldn't tell her story, and called their engagement an “orchestrated reality show” (35 secs) She said they weren't; “allowed to tell our story because they didn’t want it”. Harry then joked; “We’ve never been allowed to tell our story. That’s the consistency.”

Meghan revealed she didn’t know what a royal walkabout was so Harry briefed her. However, she didn’t know what female royals needed to wear, and was panicked about her need to wear a British designer. To add to the stress, her zip broke right before they left.

Harry says: “I think people looked at it and went ‘wow, what a breath of fresh air… I thought to myself, like ‘what a dream’. I found a woman that not necessarily finds this easy but is able to do it and make it look easy."

Extreme sacrifices

“This is a great love story and the craziest thing is that I think this love story is only just getting started," said Harry.

"She sacrificed everything that she ever knew and the freedom that she had to join me in my world. And then pretty soon after that I ended up sacrificing everything I knew to join her in her world.”

Harry said that when they became concerned about Meghan's treatment he was told to remain quiet. "The direction from the Palace was don't say anything. But what people need to understand is, as far as a lot of the family were concerned, everything that she was being put through, they had been put through as well.

"So it was almost like a rite of passage, and some of the members of the family were like, 'My wife had to go through that, so why should your girlfriend be treated any differently? Why should you get special treatment? Why should she be protected?''

"I said 'the difference here is the race element.'"

Royal family response

"Members of the royal family declined to comment on the content within this series," is the message displayed at the start of the episodes.

However, William and Kate are poised to respond robustly soon.
