Comedian Darren Harriott has made quite the name for myself after exploding onto the comedy scene back in 2016 when he appeared on Stand Up Central.
He had been struggling to break into the industry since the age of 18 and Darren’s talent was quickly noticed after his appearance on the show.
He was subsequently booked for well-known comedy show Live At The Apollo on the BBC in 2017.
Since then, the 34 year old comedian has worked consistently on TV and most recently featured as a regular panelist on Love Island: Aftersun.
He’s now turned his attention to Dancing on Ice, where he’s competing against last year’s Love Island winner Ekin-Su, amongst other stars, to secure the champion’s trophy.
But what is his life like off-screen? The secretive star has kept his personal life largely under wraps despite his TV career, but this is everything we know about him.
The comedian doesn’t appear to be married or have any kids – but has hinted that he’s in a long term relationship.
In 2021, Darren joked around about his girlfriend’s apparent hatred of his interior decorating skills during an appearance on fellow comedian Richard Osman’s show House of Games.
However, beyond hinting at some of their tiffs, hasn’t volunteered any more information about his mysterious paramour to his fans.
It’s not known how serious the relationship is – or even if the pair are still dating two years later.
Despite his tightlipped attitude to his dating life, fans do know quite a bit more about Darren’s early years.
The comedian has been candid about how his comedy career saved him from falling down a much darker path.
Darren admitted that he often carried a knife around as a teenager, due to growing up close to crime and other dangerous circumstances.
His father died by suicide when Darren was just 11 years old, in the middle of serving a prison sentence in relation to drug dealing offences.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Darren confessed that his father’s death had left him feeling totally “lost,” and feeling that he had “nothing to lose.”
Holding nothing back, he even revealed that there was a time when he was so angry and confused he might have “stabbed someone over absolutely nothing.”
Continuing, he said that he needed something else to obsess over – so when he found he had a natural knack for the comedy scene, he threw himself fully into it.
“I did my first gig at 18 and I still had that element of the ghetto kid, with a lot of anger, it’s like chasing that high, constantly trying to get that laugh and it helped me a lot,” Darren said.
