If you are sick and slightly terrified of the number of spiders that seem to miraculously make it into your home during the start of the autumn months, then you aren’t alone.

The reason spiders seem to be multiplying by the dozen is literally because it’s spider mating season which means they are out and about looking for a significant spider other half.

Spider mating season starts the first two weeks of September and lasts until the first week of October.

However, there is a solution to keep them at bay.

This simple and easy hack promises to banish creepy crawlies from your home by using something you probably already have.

George Holland, from Victorian Plumbing, told Northants Live that you don’t need to fork out on expensive insecticides and that the answer is in your fruit bowl.

All you need is a humble lemon to repel your eight-legged intruders.

He explained: “Supermarkets charge anything from £4 to £11 for ready-made spider repellent.

“Taking two minutes to make your own using a citrus fruit such as lemon is cheaper, efficient, more economical, and it makes your bathroom smell amazing.”

You can make your own spider repellent by mixing 20 drops of lemon juice and water in a spray bottle.

He added: “Spray corners of your bathroom or any moist areas that are likely to attract the insects.”

Essential oils such as tea tree, lavender, peppermint and cinnamon are also as effective and smell amazing.

Experts have estimated previously that even the cleanest house will contain anything between 20 to 40 spiders.

So grab yourself an empty spray bottle and get rid of them for good!
