DEAR DEIDRE: I CAUGHT my partner lying to me about money and now I can’t trust him. It was only £20, but a lie is still a lie.
I’m 31, he’s 34 and we’ve been together for nine months. We were deciding what to have for dinner one night, and he told me that it would have to be on me this time as he wasn’t getting paid for another couple of days.
How it tends to work is that I cover the bills, while he pays for our food. But then I saw his credit card statement on the table, which said he still had £20 in his account.
He claims he forgot about it, and says it’s not a big deal – it would be different if it was hundreds of pounds.
But my ex lied to me for years about everything – secret relationships, money, his job – so I have a hard time trusting now.
