  • Nick Knowles’ Big House Clearout fans couldn’t hold back their tears last night
  • Nick helped full-time childminder Sally, from the Cotswolds, and her children
  • Her daughter was overcome with emotion when seeing the stylish upgrade

Viewers of Nick Knowles’ Big House Clearout couldn’t hold back their tears last night after a daughter was overcome with emotion when seeing her single mother’s cluttered house transformed into a stylish abode.

This week presenter Nick helped full-time childminder Sally and her two children, Hannah, 19, and Josh, eight, from the Cotswolds, declutter their chaotic home on the Channel 5 programme.

Single mother Sally’s jam-packed house doubled up as her workspace, so sadly for her children, the rooms were covered in clutter and more than a thousand toys.

But after getting rid of more than 80 per cent of their belongings – which included 42 scented candles, 172 DVDs and eight kids’ car seats – the family’s property was turned into a fashionable, clutter-free home.

When first seeing the living room – now bright, homely and toy-free – Sally’s daughter Hannah broke down in tears, saying: ‘There’s been so many bad memories, this is just such a fresh start.’

Comforting her daughter, her mother Sally agreed, having walked into the room and said: ‘It’s simply wonderful.’

‘Oh, wow’, an emotional Hannah said before adding: ‘These are definitely happy tears.’

Before the renovation, ‘there was no sign of her own children in this room, as they were forced out because of the clutter,’ said Nick.

As well as the children’s play table permanently in the middle of the living room, there were toys stuffed in every corner, including down the side of the sofa.

Sally couldn’t sleep on her bed because of the piles of washing and the once perfect play area of the garden was neglected – having featured a shed falling apart, a dying tree and a rotting picnic table.

But the home and garden were completely transformed and given an upgrade after the family got rid of more than half of their clutter.

The home was emptied of 141 boxes which were sorted through by the family-of-three.

Viewers were left in tears following the makeover, with one writing: ‘Aww I cried with Sally. A beautiful house, her children seem so happy.’

Another said: ‘Looks like a huge weight has been lifted off the family’s shoulders. Sally looks amazing! So happy for them.’

A third added: ‘Sally’s daughter crying as she sees a clear and tidy living room… that alone should be a serious wake up call.’
