If you're a fan of Sex Education you'll have no doubt questioned at one point whether or not Mr David Groff was the real-life father of his on-screen son, Adam Groff.

The hot-headed teacher, who lost his job as Moordale High's headmaster, is played by Alistair Petrie, and his striking resemblance to Adam's actor, Connor Swindells, has baffled fans ever since the first episode.

The pairing of Alastair, 51, and Connor, 25, as a father-son duo has been hailed "one of the best castings ever" by the Netflix series' fans, and the actors have loved teasing them about whether or not they actually are related.

Shockingly, they aren't related whatsoever, but in an exciting new twist, Alastair's two real life sons, Cal and Brodie Petrie, starred in the show's third season, which released earlier this month on the streaming platform.

The 18 year old twin brothers are also spitting images of their fathers, and standing alongside their dad's on-screen son Connor, the trio genuinely look like biological siblings.

Taking their first steps into the acting world, Alastair has joked their new roles is down to "nepotism at its finest".

The proud dad announced the news earlier this year as the cast got down to filming the third series, sharing a snap of his two sons on camera.

He captioned the image: "Nepotism at its finest. Marvellous performances my sons @brodie.petrie @cpetrieee".

And only a few days ago, Alastair shared a snap of all three of them together on-set, along with Cal and Brodie who both posted the same image on their respective Instagram accounts.

The father captioned the image: "Attitude. Album due out 2023", whilst Brodie simply wrote "Sex Education – Season 3".

Connor commented under Brodie's post: "Go on!", whilst plenty of the show's fans also rushed to share their thoughts.

"Icons, the lot of ya", wrote one fan, as another added "I can't! This is soooooo good".

The twins aren't playing leading roles on the show, and were extras during season three, but who knows what could happen next season?

The show was recently renewed, so there's a possibility Cal and Brodie could indeed return, perhaps with significant roles.

Whilst Mr Groff actor Alistair has confirmed he has no relation to Adam Groff actor Connor, he frequently gushes about his on-screen son, and has stated he does feel like a son to him.

Earlier this year, he shared a snap with Connor on Instagram, alongside a lengthy caption addressing the rumours that they were actually related.

Hilariously, the pair were wearing near-identical beige outfits for the picture, which Alastair told his fans was completely unplanned.

Alongside the lovely snap, he penned: "Maybe it’s worth maintaining the mystery of ‘are they actually related in real life’ question being asked around our fictitious relationship in Sex Education.

"So the official line is ‘No, we’re not.’ But… are we related? Actually in so many ways, yes.

"This incredible talent and young man appeared in my life in 2018. I feel an intense pride at the young man he is, who he is becoming and the boundless talent he possesses.

"Blood might be the headline determining factor in dictating ‘related’. In this case, it’s not. Related? Yes. Absolutely and that is something that I’d like to acknowledge.

"Thanks everyone. #sexeducation and all the talents involved are a great big old family too. The fans are a part of that."

He ended the post by joking: "Oh…and no we didn’t plan on wearing similar clothes. Go figure."

Connor was quick to comment below, writing: "Love you lots my man, big kiss."
