Tesco unveils huge Clubcard shake-up affecting anyone with points

If you're a Tesco customer then you'll likely be familiar with the thrill of notching up points on your Clubcard.

In-store, the supermarket also offers special lower prices on certain products exclusively for anyone who has a card.

However, now the retailer is upping the stakes once again with a fresh overhaul to its Clubcard scheme.

Customers will no longer receive paper vouchers in the post at the end of each month as the supermarket aims to go paperless.

Instead, the vouchers will be sent via email with barcodes that are simple to use in-store and online.

Those keen to still receive the promotions via their letterbox will need to actively opt back in via the website.

If you are keen to do this, simply sign into your MyClubcard account and click on 'statement preferences' and swap it back to 'by post' by May 5.

Tesco is gearing up to open a further 59 new branches in the next 12 months.

The latest opening programme will take it to a total of over 2,000 Express stores and 1,001 shops.

“Our priority is to be the most convenient retailer,” Chief executive Ken Murphy said of the planned extension.

“That means serving customers wherever, whenever and however they want. No matter where our customers live, or how they shop," he added.

All staff are due a bonus as a special "thank you" for their efforts over the past year to recognise "the way colleagues really stepped up to the industry challenges of the last year" as it reported annual profits that more than trebled to £2.03billion.

As the cost of living crisis continues to blight the UK, Tesco has vowed to keep prices in check and affordable to all customers.

"Clearly, the external environment has become more challenging in recent months," the CEO said, adding:

"Against a tough backdrop for our customers and with household budgets under pressure, we are laser-focused on keeping the cost of the weekly shop in check – working in close partnership with our suppliers, as well as doing everything we can to reduce our own costs."
